Richard L. Thompson was born in Binghamton, New York, in 1947. He has received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in mathematics, specializing in probability theory and statistical mechanics. He has since done research at the State University of new York at Binghamton, Cambridge in the U.K., and the a Jolla Institute in San Diego.

Richard's interest lies in the sacred texts of ancient India, and the knowledge they possess. He believes in the Vedic cosmology and the Vedic worldview. His book, Mysteries of the Sacred Universe, discusses evidence of advanced astronomical knowledge in India’s ancient texts known as the Puranas. He also coauthored Forbidden Archeology with Michael Cremo.
